Boost Your Confidence 5 Essential Tips to Unleash Your Inner Badass

Written by: Becca Blumer

We hear it all the time: confidence is key. And there is some truth to that! Having confidence helps you get things done, make new connections, and find new opportunities. But confidence doesn’t always come easily. So how can we walk into the world making sure we feel like the baddies we are? Here are 5 tips and tricks:

Recognize that it is OKAY to not feel confident about everything

I truly believe that the first step to becoming more confident is realizing that not every moment of every day is going to be your crowning glory. The more you recognize that, the more you will be okay with the minor setbacks.

In an article by MasterClass, the number one tip listed on your journey to confidence is to be kind to yourself. Sometimes it isn’t about what is happening or what has happened previously, but more about how you walk away from that. I encourage you to hold your head high, even if you may be feeling low. This is easier said than done, we all know that. But the more you lean into it, the easier it will become, and practice will become a habit.

Fake it till you make it, babe!

Okay, so you’ve got something on the agenda for the day that could really use an injection of your most confident, bad-ass self. Sometimes, you really do need to play pretend and fake that confidence until it truly becomes yours. This is a tool I have used on more than one occasion.

Anyone who is telling you that they are confident all the time is lying. Most people are playing a giant game of pretend at some point in their lives. And when you think about it like that, things are a lot less intimidating. So, look in the mirror, tell yourself you’re awesome, and then strut out the door!

And if you falter, that’s okay, you’re HUMAN. Just dust yourself off, try again, and before you know it, someone will be asking YOU how to be confident.

Wear your favorite outfit or accessory. Do your hair. Put on the bright red lipstick.

Do it for YOU!

Speaking of strutting, nothing makes me feel more confident than when I get up and get dressed in something fun and put on a little makeup. There is something about being able to look in that mirror and give yourself a smile that says “damn, I look good!” Which you should do often because you deserve some praise, babe!

I also like to push myself to try a new look, or experiment with a new color combo or style. At first it can make you feel a little nervous or uncomfortable (the opposite of what we are going for here), but push your boundaries, it’s part of the “fake-it-til-you-make-it” vibe. Dare to step out of your comfort zone and encourage yourself to treat life like a runway.

Laugh out loud!

This may not work for everyone, but for me, it is my tried and true. When in doubt, find some humor! Not only do you feel better when you’re smiling and laughing, but those around you do as well.

I have found that there are very few situations that can’t be diffused or lightened by humor. So be silly. Enjoy a giggle-fest. And always remember to be kind. It’s okay to be self-effacing, but don’t laugh at the expense of others.

Surround yourself with other confident babes!

I truly feel the most me, the most awesome, the most confident, when I am with other confident awesome people. According to Kathryn Lee, MHC, Ed. M, M.A., featured in this article by Today.com, you should strive to “surround yourself with positive people who see the best in you and say it.”

I am fortunate to have some truly inspiring people in my life, and we uplift each other and push each other to be the best versions of ourselves. If you feel like you don’t have people like that in your life, that’s okay! There are so many ways to connect to new people. I recommend going to networking events, trying out a new meet-up event or even a fitness class. You never know when you’re going to meet your new bestie!

Being confident can be hard. And it is normal and okay to not feel confident. I encourage you to get up, get dressed, and be the best you that you can be. You are worth the effort, and you are deserving of that confident, bad ass feeling!
